Steps To Setting Up Box Office for Windows on
an existing Windows Network

Sensible Cinema Box Office and Concession for Windows

STEPS TO NETWORKING YOUR COMPUTERS FOR USE WITH SENSIBLE CINEMA BOX OFFICE FOR WINDOWS:

STEP #1:        CREATE WORKGROUP / SET WORKGROUP NAMES

All computers using Sensible Cinema Box Office for Windows should be in the same Windows workgroup. In this example we will call the workgroup SENSIBLE.

a)      On each computer go to Start > Control Panel > (Classic View) > System icon.

b)      Select the Computer Name tab and name the workgroup SENSIBLE

c)       Computers must be restarted to complete the workgroup name change.

STEP #2:        SHARE PROGRAM FOLDER ON YOUR SERVER/MANAGER COMPUTER

Assuming you have already installed the management software on the server computer, follow these steps to share the proper folder so that other users may access it and read from and write data to this folder. The folder you must share is called BOX OFFICE FOR WINDOWS. Do not share folders above or below this one. All data in folders below this one will automatically be accessible.

a)      Press “START” button on your Windows desktop. Then select My Computer

followed by Local Drive C:

b)      Browse to Program Files then Sensible Cinema Software

c)       Once you locate the Box Office for Windows folder, right-click on it and choose Sharing and Security

d)      Next, find Network Sharing and Security about at the middle of the sharing dialog box. Check the checkbox that says Share this folder on the Network.  The default share name will be Box Office for Windows. Leave it as it is. Then check the checkbox that says Allow network users to change my files.

e)      Press the Apply button. A warning window will appear when you do so telling you that the share name is too long to be accessed on computers running older operating systems. This is okay since you will be using Windows XP. Click Yes.

STEP #3:        MAP NETWORK DRIVE ON EACH SALES TERMINAL

On each sales workstation you must map a local drive letter that corresponds to the folder you have shared on the server computer. In a sense, the mapped network drive will represent in a single letter that database folder.

a)      Click Windows Start button then My Network Places from the right column. If this choice doesn’t exist, click My Computer instead and look for Other Places on the left column of the My Computer dialog box. Select My Network Places.

b)      Click View Workgroup Computers from the Network Tasks menu

c)       Computers in the SENSIBLE workgroup soon will appear. Allow a few minutes because it can take a few minutes to locate computers on your network. Once the computer names appear,  locate the name of the computer that is your server/manager PC.

d)      Left-Click on the computer name and it will reveal the name of the shared folders and printers on the computer called SensibleMgr in our example on the previous page. Select the shared Box Office for Windows folder and Right-Click.

e)       Select Map Network Drive from the Right-click menu that appears.

f)       In the Map Network Drive dialog Drive Z: will be the default drive for your mapped drive if there are no other drives currently mapped. The Z: drive will now represent the Box Office for Windows folder found on the server computer.

Be sure that the Reconnect at Logon checkbox is checked and press the Finish button.

g)      If you have successfully mapped the drive you will see the contents of the shared folder within a few seconds. This proves you are connected to the folder. Now you can close the folder.

If you press the Windows START button and My Computer on this sales terminal now you would see the Z: drive listed under network drives.

STEP #4:        SET DATA PATH IN SENSIBLE CINEMA BOX OFFICE FOR WINDOWS

On each sales workstation you must tell the terminal software where to get its data from. We are going to use the Mapped Network Drive as our data path. In the example it has been drive Z:.

a)      Start the Sensible TermSetup from the icon on your Windows Desktop.

b)      Second, choose Configure Path to Database. Select Use Network Mapped Drive Z:. Press OK. You should now be able to open the sales Terminal Client and connect to your data.
