Windows XP Professional Sunset Information
If you are using Microsoft Windows XP Professional
on any POS terminal which is processing credit cards through Sensible Cinema,
you must install a Windows version with a later sunset date in order to remain
PCI compliant, deter card data theft and avoid huge penalties from card
processors.
Contact your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or
service provider for help upgrading to one of the longer supported embedded
systems before the April 8, 2014 deadline. If you are using computers designed
for home use it is unlikely that you can upgrade to a Windows Embedded for POS
operating system. These are sold exclusively through OEMs for use on POS
terminals.
If using XP on a PC with less than 2 GB of RAM, the
easier transition will be to the similar Windows Embedded POSReady
2009. Contact Sensible Cinema for links to download the latest full terminal
installer to reinstall Sensible Cinema Terminal on the PC.
Schedule of End of Life Cycle for Microsoft Operating
Systems:
Note:
Some of the Windows embedded systems will display a “Windows XP Professional”
banner at startup even if XP Pro isn’t the actual version you have. To see your
actual Windows version, open the “System” icon in the Windows Control Panel.
Most Partnertech PT and SP
terminals sold by Sensible Cinema since 2007 run a version of Windows Embedded
for POS.
